Aloha! Our educational resource center in Honolulu seeks a detail-oriented and academically astute Academic Writer. We're not just looking for anyone who can write; we want a wordsmith who can articulate complex ideas with clarity, precision, and a touch of local flavor. This contractor, part-time position, will significantly contribute to our mission of empowering learners across Hawai'i through exceptional learning materials. Whether on-site or remote, we need someone who can balance research rigor with an approachable style.

Your Kuleana (Responsibilities):

  • Resource Creation: Develop academic articles, study guides, lesson plans, and supplementary materials aligning with educational standards.
  • Content Localization: Adapt materials to reflect the diverse cultural and educational needs of Hawaiʻi’s student population.
  • Rigorous Research: Conduct thorough research using scholarly databases, academic journals, and credible online sources to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborative Development: Work with educators, subject matter specialists, and instructional designers to create engaging and effective learning resources.
  • Accuracy Assurance: Maintain strict quality control by editing and proofreading your work and that of others to ensure clarity and correctness.

Necessary Knowledge & Skill Cultivation:

  • Proven expertise in academic writing, encompassing research papers, literature reviews, and dissertations.
  • In-depth familiarity with diverse citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.)
  • Proficiency in conducting rigorous academic research and synthesizing findings effectively.
  • Outstanding communication capabilities, encompassing impeccable written and verbal forms.
  • Excellent capability in project management and adherence to deadlines.
  • Experience using local cultural knowledge to enhance resources.

Scholarly Preparation:

  • A bachelor's degree in English, Education, Journalism, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees (Master's, Ph.D.) are advantageous.
  • A strong foundation in educational theories and instructional design principles.
  • A portfolio illustrating proficiency in academic writing across different formats.
